Regarding a Mamaroneck-Rye game

October
2

One of the loyal blog readers asked why doesn’t Mamaroneck play Rye? This would be a game I would love to see. Just as I would love to see Mamaroneck and Lakeland play during the regular season.

A few years ago, when Mamaroneck won the 2004 state title and Rye lost the heartbreaker state final in double OT to Maine-Endwell, I asked both coaches, Rye’s Kevin Kelly and Mamaroneck’s John Savage why they didn’t play. It all comes down to scheduling. Many times teams might be unable to iron out a date to play. Savage did tell me that the teams did scrimmage that year and it was amazing.

Mamaroneck had Katie Devaney, Jillian and Alexis Cotugno, Katherine Sampson, Midori Uehara and K.J Warren, to name a few. Rye featured Brenna Gulotta, Caitlyn Carey, Claire Byrne and Ashley McCauley, again, to name a few.

Hopefully, one year we might get a Mamaroneck-Rye game because both coaches are outstanding and have done phenomenal jobs with their respective programs.
