State champions: Rye 1, Garden City 0, 2 OT

November
17

Olivia Nabhan received Colleen Carey’s pass and swept a shot in with 4:58 remaining in the second sudden-victory overtime, giving Rye its fourth state championship this decade.

Congratulations to Rye for winning its Section 1-leading fourth state title and fourth this decade.

Rye also snapped Garden City’s 62-game winning streak, dating back to the 2005 season-opener. Garden City had won the 2005 Class A state crown and 2006 Class B title.

Congratulations to Rye on another outstanding season, and specifically the seniors – Marielle Bianchi, Colleen Carey, Liz Chabot, Alyssa Coughlan, Morgan McCauley, Ai Nishino, Lucy Rollins and Ashley Santoro. You brought Rye back to the state final four and, with a little help from the youngster – Olivia Nabhan, gave the program its fourth state championship. Outstanding job seniors!

Congrats to Rye for your amazing accomplishments this year – first breaking Lakeland’s winning streak (and a victory against such a great team), and then taking the state B title, while halting Garden City’s 62 game winning streak.

Congradulations to both Coaches, Kelly and Sarsen for their consistance runs at state titles and I believe almost 800 wins between them. It is amazing that their teams are always on top.
