A shocker at Rye

February
2

I was told Friday night, by my boss, that someone called to let us know that Kevin Kelly had been dismissed as Rye’s varsity field hockey coach. I thought it was a cruel joke someone was playing on us.

When I called the individual who alerted us, this person said it was true. I still could not believe it, but Rye AD Rob Castagna verified it.

So, how do you fire a man who has 391 career wins and led the program to four state championships, incling the 2007 state crown by ending two-time state titlist Garden City’s 62-game winning streak? I wish somone would go on the record and answer this.

And, according to math rules, four is greater than two. Or, in other words, the field hockey’s four state titles is two more than the Rye football team’s two state championships.

Hopefully, this week, I can get some answers. Stay tuned.
