In answer to everyone's question, Rye and Mamaroneck have played each other in the past but as scrimmages. We will be doing so again in Oct before the sectionals.

Yes that one loss was to Rye last year and this year. It is anyone's game at anytime. Can't wait to see how Lakeland does against Mamaroneck - that team is on fire!!!

Hey Fh Fan,
Lakeland is doing just fine this year. One loss is not really that bad. They had one loss last year and beat Mamaroneck in the Sec. Finals. Don't you know when it comes to the sectionals it's anyones game it doesn't matter what happens all season. Lakeland is full of talent so don't count them out.

Good to see the interest that this game generated, not just among the bloggers but among field hockey fans. It was also great to see the interest from girls from other teams who came to watch (I saw Putnam Valley, Mamaroneck and Bronxville teams and there were probably some other girls as well). Thanks to Rye for hosting a big game under the lights.

Rye and Mamaroneck were "cousins" for several years. They scrimmaged and practiced with one another. The coaches were good friends and Mamaroneck needed valuable "turf time" practices during sectionals. I witnessed several of these sessions through the years and neither team appeared that much better or worse than the other.

For pugle1 the answer to your question about who is the better team and why don't they play is this: Rye and Lakeland are now in the same Class - which is B and they did play as part of their regular season. Mamaroneck is in class A - due to the size of their school and have never played Rye in regular season play. Lakeland up until this year played in Class A and met Mamaroneck in play in the Sections every year. Rye and Mamo are both excellent teams with extremely talented girls that have an excellent chance at advancing well beyond the Sections this year. I think Lakeland lost the backbone of their team and will take time to rebuild. Rye's coaches are new, but has girls that are motivated, talented and know what it takes to win. Mamo's coaches are awesome and the girls are equally talented, and Lakeland/Sarsen will have to regroup and rebuild this year - like many sports teams, they have cycles of experienced and inexperienced players that need time to develop.

Hi Tony! sorry, just a small modification just so some girls can receive additional credit - Annie VanWagenen played a stellar game for the majority of the 50 minutes as the right defender, and the cross during the first goal was driven by Casey MacGuire. but this was a wonderful game to watch, both teams played great, competitive field hockey and we all can't wait until the girls get into playoff season! always a pleasure reading, tony!!!
