Field hockey in the Lower Hudson Valley

Greenwich Academy at Rye, Saturday (12:30 p.m.)

October
9

You might be wondering why I would put this game up as a must see. Well, thanks to a Rye player who alerted me to this (because it was not listed on the Section 1 schedule) I suggest heading to Nugent Stadium once again for what should be an excellent game.

Greenwich Academy is not your regular private school. Greenwich Academy, coached by veteran Angela Tamaro, wins the Fairchester Athletic League every year and would more than hold its own in Section 1. Greenwich Academy plays Rye every year and usually gets the best of the Garnets, which is saying something considering Rye’s run since 2000. Last year, Greenwich Academy dealt Rye one of its two losses.  So, if you have your Saturday afternoon free and you’re interested in watching excellent field hockey, make the trip to Rye.

If I wasn’t covering a football game, I’d be there myself. However, I’d have to check with the Rye parents first to see if it was okay.

Will GA play Mamaroneck? Our team has played GA & I have seen Mamaroneck play, I would love to see Mamaroneck play them!

In all fairness to the Rye team you must mention that Greenwich Academy recruits from all areas – it is a private school. Their coach has asked a lot of the Rye players what grades they were in and if there was an interest in going and playing for that school after games played there. Let’s say it like it is.
