Saturday, 11/1

Championship

At Lakeland, 7 p.m.

The surprise, obviously, is Lakeland being seeded first in Class B despite losing to second-seeded Rye, the 2007 state Class B champion, and third-seeded Putnam Valley. However, according to the Harbin Point System, a Class B school is awarded five points for each win over a Class A school and four points for a victory over a Class B. Because Lakeland plays in a Class A league, they had more Class A victories than Rye and Putnam Valley. However, Rye owns victories over Putnam Valley, 1-0, and Lakeland, 3-0. Prediction: Rye over Lakeland in the final. The Garnets will meet Garden City in the regional final with a trip to the state final four on the line. This will be a rematch of the 2007 title game, won by Rye in overtime on an Olivia Nabhan goal, assisted by Colleen Carey. It is a SHAME that these teams will meet in the regional final. Both deserve to be in the state final four. This will be the REAL state final.

THANK GOODNESS YOUR NOT THAT GREAT ON PREDICTIONS ,CAUSE I HOPE YOU ARE WRONG. GO PV

  3. jk

This Harbin Point System is really not a good one if a team can be seeded #1 that actually LOST to the #2 & 3 seeds. Wow, that just isn’t right!

  4. MKFan

    WAY TO GO MAMARONECK!

If I am wrong, I will gladly accept the criticism. All the best to all of the teams.

    Tony…..

Well I hope your wrong about the final game…..
Can’t count Putnam Valley out of it yet !!!
    Remember 2005 can be repeated

    GO P.V.

Checking in from GC on your informative blog. Hope you didn’t jinx us w/ your assumption. Expecting tough games in Section with Manhasset and in the LI Championships with probably Shoreham Wading River or Sayville. Rye may now be your choice to come out of Section in B, but don’t forget you picked Putnam Valley at beginning and Lakeland is a top team that is excellently coached and got the better draw. I can see any of the three winning B. Unfortunate that LI and Hudson Valley have to get past each other to make semis. Also keep an eye on two tough B schools upstate, Glens Falls and Maine-Endwell. M-E was State Champs in 05, finalists in 06, a semi-finalist last year and has their entire team back. Glens Falls was in finals two years ago, & I believe undefeated playing several Class A schools this year. Looking forward to some great playoff hockey.

    Tony…

With your prediction of Mamaroneck winning Class A, who do you think they will meet in the regionals?

  9. Tony Pinciaro

Stroked, or Garden City fan –

I checked my pre-season rankings and yes, I had Put Valley ranked first. However, can you please point out to me where I said Putnam Valley was my choice to win the section?

I am well aware of Maine-Endwell for it beat Rye in the 2004 state final – on a penalty corner with two seconds remaining in double overtime. The following year Maine-Endwell lost to Putnam Valley in overtime of the final. Maine-Endwell also beat Rye in a 2006 regional.

    Mk Fan –

From what I understand, Ward Melville could be Mamaroneck’s opponent in the regional final. The teams met in a 2004 regional (at Putnam Valley) won by Mamaroneck on a K.J. Warren goal. Mamaroneck, as youknow, went on to win the state title.

Go Lakeland !!!!!! Its time for the games to begin!!!! It’s all about the sectionals!!!!! Go hornets!!!! Good Luck to all!!!

  12. stroked

My apologies Tony, sorry for the inaccuracy on the sectional prediction.

  13. SPORTS FAN

Is semi-final game on “Wednesday” 10/29 or Thursday “10/30” ??

  14. Hollow

    JK,

The Harbin system is a good one. They should have it in football. It rewards you for playing a tougher schedule. Lot’s of schools like to stay in class or drop down. I respect a program that takes a chance and plays up in class.

  15. waaatcher

Sectional finals should be tremendous games! Although I think Mamaroneck will easily walk away with it, Class B will be a great game to watch! Lakeland, Rye, PV they all have excellent players, it’s really “on any given day”. Good luck to all!

Class A and B semis are Wednesday. I had the incorrect date.

    Thanks Tony:)

    PV VS. RYE 5:30
should be good dont doubt pv.they made it once they can make it again. And as for lakeland i wouldn’t doubt them either. this should be very intense. and i advise all of you to go out and support them ! !

watch out for byram next year. This is a program that just keeps improving. Although they had some bad losses they improved tremendously and will come out strong next year. A huge contender for next year.
