Yes, that score is correct. Pawling goes to No. 1 Bronxville in a semifinal Thursday, 2:30 p.m. This will be a family affair as Pawling coach June Lagan’s cousin is married to Bronxville coach, Courtnie Egan. Lagan also introduced Egan to field hockey at a young age and Egan went on to score the winning goal in Mahopac’s first state championship.

WHAT ABOUT LAKELAND!??? DONT LEAVE THEM OUT
    GUESS THE POLLS ARE WRONG..
    RYE IS OUTTA THERE !!!!!!!!!

  5. john

How do you like the coaching change now

  6. Tony Pinciaro

    John –

We don’t need a comment like that. How about congratulating Rye on a fine season instead of bringing up the coaching change. That is not fair to the players or coach Fitzgerald.

  7. Garnet FH Fan

Emma Tucci actually scored the goal for Rye on one heck of a shot!!!!!

  8. Whose laughing now

If Kevin Kelly was the coach Rye would have won! Must feel pretty stupid now firing him!!

  9. fhfan08

Too bad for Rye. they had a great run. Lakeland vs. Putnam for the finals!!!!! don’t count lakeland out they look good since only losing 1-0 to pv. I hope pv is ready for the hornets!!!!

  10. SPORTS FAN

WAY TO GO PUTNAM VALLEY!!!!!!!It’s YOU all the way!!!! You girls deserve it all….....

  11. fan

The Rye-PV games are a must see for for anyone who loves Field Hockey ; Both teams played great , Rye looked a little
nervous and/or not use to playing from behind. Congrats to both teams. Does anyone know when the last time Rye lost a home game to a sec 1 class B team?

  12. fan08

Its too bad nobody gives lakeland the press they deserve!!!!
Too bad for Rye tonite two major losses in soccer and field hockey!,

  13. Tony Pinciaro

    Whose Laughing Now –

Where were you all season when Rye was winning convincingly? They get beat today and right away you start bringing up Kevin Kelly. That is unfair to the players and Coach Fitzgerald.

Was all of Rye calling for Kelly’s head in 2005 when Putnam Valley beat Rye in the sectional final? Probably not.

  14. fhmmmm

WAY TO GO PUTNAM VALLEY!!!!!! YOU DESERVE TO TAKE THE SECTION…...MAYBE YOU WILL GET THE HEADLINES YOU DESERVE

JUST REMEMBER 2005 CAN BE REPEATED !!!!! IT’S YOUR TIME

  15. fhmmmm

    DEAR WHO’S LAUGHING NOW ???

I DON’T THINK KEVIN KELLY WOULD HAVE MADE A DIFFERNCE…..I GUESS YOU DIDN’T SEE THE GAME TONITE ….IT WAS PV ALL THE WAY …. NO DOUBT ABOUT THAT

  16. john

Rye has not missed a sectional final in years

  17. FH1

    Tony,
Thanks again for a great job reporting on the games this season. I’ll be out of town for the finals but will be checking your blog for the results.

  18. Joanne Santoro

This is for all the negative people posting on this blog – You’ve taken picking on 13 to 17 year old girls to a new level. You say things here anonymously that you would never say to anyone of these girls/parents faces.

Every girl on every team goes out every game and does their best. No one likes to lose but one team has to lose and one team wins. I guess some just win more graciously than others. To Fan 08, you are pathetic. As for the mention about the coaching change even more pathetic.

To the Rye girls, you are a great team, you are great girls, hold your heads up – you are GARNETS FOR LIFE!!
ALL OF RYE LOVES AND APPRECIATES YOU!!!

  19. john

I was not trying to undermind Rye’s season or Coach Fitzgerald fine job. Beating Lakeland and Greenwich Academy was very impressive. But there is a reason why Lakeland, Mamaroneck, and Rye have been constant travelers to NYS final four. Correct me if I am mistaken, those three are the most experinced coaches from section I and most likely have the most wins. I think whoever was behind pushing the coach out- is responsible for cheated this team out of another final four.

PERSONAL thoughts and OPINIONS for other internet user to read.I have not seen anything that is UNFAIR to anybody, just the opinion of somebody.Do not be so thin skinned.Anybody that comes on this site is a Field Hockey Fan.The Football blog get more replies in a day then this site gets in a year.So chill.

  21. fieldhockeyfan

Interesting description on blogging and I understand the “do not be so thin skinned” words of advice but I have to say I don’t think we need to express opinions that are hurtful toward others or that “stir the pot”. Let’s not give the “pot stirrers” any power here. All these girls should be celebrated. Great game last night PV. Good luck to PV and Lakeland moving forward.
Rye girls, you are awesome and have been so much fun to watch this season! Thank you to all the coaches and Tony….a great job and a great season!!!

Believe you’ve got to consider the coaching factor as well as returning players. Class B’s a touch off for that reason. 1. Lakeland, 2. Putnam Valley, & 3. Rye. We’ll see what happens!”
I said it August 23rd and I’ll stand by my prediction. I know 2 out of the three coaches and there’s none better than Sarsen in regard to FH within this area. Rye’s record this year is because of the amazing talent of the players—many of whom have been coached by Sarsen (Empire Team). I truly expect Rye’s record to decline as these talented group of girls move on to college. Now we’ll see if that prediction comes true!

  23. fhfan08

Tony I am really disappointed with your lakeland coverage this year!!!!!

  24. FITZ FAN

Kevin Kelly was a fantastic coach, but so is Emily Fitzgerald. She had big shoes to fill coming in, and she sure filled them well. She led the Rye team to a great season, especially for a transitional year. The Rye team, parents, and community welcome her with open arms and thank her for leading the girls in a fantastic season. Fitz, we hope you stay on board for a long while to come. Thanks!

  25. stroked

A small item for Mamaroneck –

Garden City and Ward Melville played a friendly scrimmage the other day out East while waiting for playoffs to start. About 15 minutes in, one of the senior starters for Ward Melville went down with what looked like a serious and painful knee injury. Taken off by trainers golf cart after 15 minutes. From where it occurred, looked from across the field to be either a left mid or left forward.

  26. seasonfan

good job put valley! but no lakeland coverage tony? those girls played great last night

  27. FH FAN

“Yes, that score is correct.” ? Sounds like your trying to say it came as a surprise. Well it was no surprise for the PV team, I’ll tell you that. Those girls knew they could do it all along. Despite not even being considered to be able to be in the finals! And as for those polls? Well, whose gonna win the finals now?! GREAT GAME LAST NIGHT PUT VALLEY! You deserved that win more than anyone else. NOW LETS GO GET LAKELAND GIRLS! . they’re not a team. they’re a family!

  28. wow

EMILY FITZERALD IS one hell of a coach!

  29. #1FHFAN

    To fhfan08,

In Tony’s defense, I feel he has been doing a good job covering the season! Yes, he has given PV-Rye, and Class B, more coverage than others, but do you remember how much press Lakeland received last year? Look at Mamaroneck, they are a great team, like Lakeland, that deserve a lot of coverage, and everytime they win they just get a small write up!

  30. FHDAD

I was at the Rye-PV game last night. That was the best game I have ever watched. Both teams have unbelievable talent. The skill & determination of the Rye & PV players came out in that game.Hats off to both programs. In reality that should have been the Class B Finals.(that’s if PV beat Lakeland in the semis). Not to take anything from Lakeland, but head to head competition should have been the most determining factor in the seeds. The point system should be used to break any controversy for the top teams & used for the rest of the teams.Rye or PV probably would have had the same record if they played Lakeland’s schedule. But that is in the past so Good Luck to all the teams in the finals.

  31. sports fan

Hey FHDAD Welcome to the last 5+ years of the sectional finals they are always great games Look at the talented group of athletes both programs have had dating back to 2003.
Though Lakeland and Mamaroneck are also great its anyones game on any given day

  32. fan

Hey Tony just wondering if you know when the last time Rye lost a home game

  33. sec1fh

They have lost in regular season at home to out of region or out of class teams (never a Section 1 Class B or C team), but they haven’t dropped a home playoff game dating back to at least 1998 which is as far back as I can definitively remember.

  34. fan08

To #1FHFAN.. lakeland has best very underestimated this season. but look were they are. There was barely anything about their briarcliff game in the paper this morning, despite them having an amazing game. I think lakeland deserves more credit. Yes in the past, they have always been credited, but this is now a completely different new team, different talents, faces and abilities. They also I feel have the best coach in section one. I would not underestimate this team. I was also a fan of Put Valley and think that they feel the same way.
    GOOD LUCK TO BOTH !

  35. PUTVALLEYFAN

RYE IT OUT OF THERE & PUT VALLEY IS IN!
RYE WAS WAY TO CONFIDENT IN THEIR ABILITIES.. AND LOOK WHAT HAPPENED THEY WERE DETERMINED TO FAIL. PUT VALLEY AND LAKELAND ARE TWO VERY GOOD UNDERESTIMATED TEAMS WITH GREAT ABILITES ASHELY MORGAN, MEGAN BOZECK, TWO OF SECTION ONE’S BIGGEST PLAYERS. ARE UP FOR A SECOND CHALLENGE. THIS SHOULD BE INTENSE. =0

  36. fhfan08

Lakeland lost all those great seniors last year. They and the team were awesome!!!!! This years team is working hard to carry on the tradition!!!! Tony should give them credit! I agree with terrible coverage today on semis!!!

  37. Tony Pinciaro

It is apparent that I am public enemy No. 1 among the Lakeland fans. I better wear a disguise in order to be safe when I cover the Class B final Saturday. That or maybe I should bring a bodyguard. Check that, maybe I should defer to one of my colleagues to cover the Class B title game and I will cover soccer.

  38. jk

Give Tony a break…he can only be in one place at one time…and he obviously picked the right game to be at based on the scores. A 2-1 game vs a 5-0 game. Good-luck to both teams on Sat and I’m sure Tony will be there to cover it!

  39. SPORTS FAN

GO PV TIGERS!!!!!!!!! Leave it all out on the field! “SENIORS”, there’s no coming back. This is your time. “Good luck” Your fans are behind you every step of the way. And boy do you have the BEST fans.

  40. are you serious

Lakeland fans complaining about coverage ???

Do you have some serious brain damage ? I mean it – do you have some brain deformity ?

Lakeland – between their field hockey and lacrosse ccoverage – along with emopire games publicity – has had more journal news coverage the last few years than any other team in the area.

Lakeland fans – get a life. So other teams may be written about every now and then.

  41. fan

In all fairness all these kids look to be recognized they are a great bunch of athletes. The parents too its exciting to see your child’s accomplishments recognized. PV, Rye, Lakeland and Mamaroneck are all consistently great programs that should command a mutual respect for one another and their fans. Many of these girls from different teams play with each other outside of school be it futures, empires etc. They enjoy seeing and reading about each other there too. There is only one Front page. In honesty it came as no surprise that Lakeland beat Briarcliff, not really newsworthy or shocking we all expected them to make it to the finals. PV beating Rye was a shock considering past experiences and expectations not an outcome I would have wagered on. Thanks Tony for the coverage of all the girls GOOD LUCK TO BOTH LAKELAND AND PV it should be a great game

  42. SPORTS FAN

No SHOCK to us PV fan’s. Speak for yourself. 2005 repeat….

  43. SHFHMOM

Rye lost to Somers at home in strokes in a Class B semi-final game in 2002.

  44. westhockey

How about we reserve judgment for who is the best team out there until the middle of November, by which time the teams have to had actually played through the section, then through regionals (and if Garden City wins Long Island regionals, I do not envy the Section 1 winner who has to go up against them), then states. Because right now, no one is in a position to say anything.

  45. fan

    SPORTS FAN

lots of talk now but I’d venture to say you wouldn’t have bet the farm on Oct. 28th. Coming from a PV fan the odds weren’t in our favor.

  46. 12rock

Congrats to Put valley …. and Rye always puts a quality team out there no matter what sport…..congrats Rye … so with that said it should speak volumes to the Put valley team ….Lets roll girls …. Lakeland good luck ….

Sports fan yeah its me ..lol i have to follow field hockey now … right ….. yeah go Hannah !!! P.V. bring home !

  47. SPORTS FAN

SHOCKED: Something that jars the mind or emotions as if with a violent unexpected blow. I wouldn’t bet the “farm” on any game. Especially a 1 goal game. GOOD LUCK to all the teams in the finals…..

  48. fan

Shocked: to strike with great surprise and emotional disturbance. PV was not the predicted favorite GOOD LUCK

  49. fhfan08

Good luck Pv and lakeland and to the rest of the classes in the finals. Sorry some people can’t handle a little exciting blog talk. This is nothing you should read the football blog. tony we still love you. We know you can’t be everwhere at once!!!! see you sat.
Ps you don’t need a body guard!!!

  50. Real FH Fan

Tony’s coverage of FH here in section 1 is second to none. I’ve had daughters that played in the late 1990’s and ones that have played recently. There is NO comparison in the coverage of FH. Tony is very dedicated, loves what he does, and is fair which is all you can ask for from a reporter. He can only be in one place at a time. He is doing an outstanding job and all of us should be thankful he covers our girls playing the wonderful sport of FH. Sometimes instead of complaining about what one doesn’t have, one should look around at what one DOES have. And with Tony – we have the best. Tony – keep up the OUTSTANDING coverage!

  51. fh fan 2008

    hi all-

there are a couple of things i am confused about.
    1) why is everyone picking on tony? it is his job to cover the ENTIRE section…and we all know how many talented girls, teams, programs etc. are out there. it would be impossible to dedicate equal coverage to every team, and tony is nothing bur respectful of each and every team. He does his best – which is 10000000x better than any of us could ever do combined – and we should appreciate that.
    2) Since when did parents become the athletes? there is nothing i despise more than when the parents of student-athletes go onto these blogs and trash talk as if they’re in high school again! every single girl works herself dead trying to be the best player she can be so that her team can be the best they can be. there should be nothing written on these blogs but words of respect and gratitude for putting up an admirable fight. i do not understand the need of pv fans here to boast and post things like “rye is outta here!”. there is a huge difference between “great game rye, congratulations to both teams and lets roll pv girls!” and “RYE IS OUTTA HERE! THEY WERE DETERMINED TO FAIL!”. do YOU see the difference? i don’t think so. parents, you need to stop being immature and start respecting the efforts the girls put in. YOU are not on the field so you have NO authority to put down any of the athletes, programs, or coaches, OR to boast about a team’s victory which you are NOT a part of.

tony, you are fabulous. keep doing what you’re doing.

  52. sect 1 fan

well said I’m a PV fan and have felt the same way not just about Rye who is a great program, but also the cheap shots at lakeland fans who have been gracious and helpful to our programs. I seem to remember land’s coach and players helping out with lax the first year PV had a team. Along with the field usage we have exchanged to practice on. On the club level the parents, athletes and coaches have always welcomed our children and treated them well. I for one would like to see this continue.
