After conferring with Section 1 field hockey coordinator Sue Hughes earlier this evening, there is not a great deal of new information.
The events that were planned for tomorrow have been postponed further since some area schools will be closed and some parts of the region are without power. If I had to guess, Friday or Saturday might be a realistic window for the games to resume.
It is certain that Valhalla will not be hosting the Section finals. This is because a light fixture on a tower was damaged and will not be repaired in time to provide light for a night games. Another site will be selected.
Section 1 is meeting tomorrow morning regarding the state of all the playoff tournaments. As soon as more info is know, i’ll pass it on to you.
It’s important to keep in mind as a frame of reference that the first round of regionals starts on Nov. 7. If games resume on Friday, that would leave 6 days to get through the remaining rounds of the tournament. Inherently, this could cause some teams to have to play without rest days in between games.

Scarsdale just closed schools for the remainder of the week. 2/3 of homes are still without power and 5 of 7 schools in the village have no power. If games cannot be played if a school is closed, then I guess Saturday is the earliest the quarterfinals could start.
That’s what I’m hearing. Quarterfinals might take place Saturday, Sunday or Monday depending on the home school’s field availability and power situation. It will be a tight window to complete the tournament before regionals on Wednesday.
bring on the games the kids need athletics, to get away from sandy for a while…
