At the moment, i’m working on a preview of this weekend’s NYS Class B semifinal game between Lakeland and Section 4’s Maine-Endwell. It will run in this Friday’s edition of The Journal News and i’ll share it here also.
It will have key details about both teams and i’m going to get some interesting perspective from first year varsity players on Lakeland that are making the trip to the state finals for the first time. The team has an outstanding group of junior and seniors, but I think it will unique to hear from younger players about their first postseason experience.
- In term’s of the time of Lakeland’s game this Saturday, it’s a 7:30 p.m. start against Section 4’s Maine-Endwell
(Yesterday there was a slight discrepancy because the NYSPHSAA’s site reflected a 5:30 p.m. start – if there are any changes, i’ll alert you to them)
- On Sunday, the championship game will be held at 2 p.m. between Lakeland/Maine-Endwell and Pittsford Sutherland/Miller Place.
Both of the games will be taking place at Cicero-North Syracuse high school.

Is there any word about All-Section awards? I haven’t heard anything about it, I was wondering if they were going to be announced anytime soon
It is my understanding that All-Section awards just came out. Can you ask one of the coaches for a list?

Can someone please explain the difference/relationship between “All-Section” and “All-Elite” honors? Are these honors given every year? Thanks.
All Section are awards that the section gives. All Elite are awards that the coaches developed because the number of All Section Awards was not enough to honor all the high quality players in the section. The standards used to have a player receive the awards are the same. To receive either award you should be an All League award winner.
I was under the impression that All-Elite was more exclusive than All-Section, not the other way around as OK explains. It seems that the list of All-Elite players is a subset of the All-Section players; and then All-State is a subset of All-Elite. Is this incorrrect?
All Elite stands by itself. It is an award given by the coaches association to the “elite” players in Section 1. I believe All Section and All Elite are one and the same. The only differences are that there are more All Elite awards so that more players are honored and the source of the award. All Section is from the section and All Elite from the coaches association. When the list comes out I am sure there will be players that receive both.
All State are awards that are given to the section from the state. Each league would receive a certain number based on the quality of their players.
At league meetings the coaches then discuss the nominations from that league and all the coaches vote on the awards.
Does the players own coach have to nominate or can another coach from a different team nominate a player?
