Three games are on tap for Saturday.
Nyack visits Pleasantville at 11 a.m. and Clarkstown North is at Ursuline at 1:30 p.m.
But the game of the day will be Suffern at Mamaroneck, also at 1:30 p.m.
Suffern upset Mamaroneck in double overtime last year to win its first ever Section 1 field hockey title.
The Mounties, the cream of the crop in Rockland field hockey, had fallen to Mamaroneck in the 2008 finals.
Both teams have lost a bunch of players to graduation, although Suffern, which has a new coach in former assistant Gaby Somma, seems to have more question marks.
Sydney Hiller, the senior forward who’s both great at setting up others and burying the ball in the net herself, will have to have a good game for the Mounties to win.
Look for Mamaroneck’s defense — always a very strong part of its game — to key on her.
Offensively, the Tigers will try to get the ball to their twin threat of Ellie and Karen Seid.
This should be a low-scoring game and, although just an inch into the new season, potentially one of the best of the year.
Prediction: Based on its depth and a hankering for revenge, Mamaroneck prevails.
