I always enjoy attending the Section 1 All-Elite Field Hockey Dinner because it is a celebration of the season, honoring the many outstanding players in Westchester, Rockland, Putnam and Dutchess Counties. For the third consecutive year Holy Child and Rye Country Day School met in the Independent schools state title game. Holy Child won the title in 2006 and last year RCDS was the champ. Holy Child won its second state championship, 2-1 in penalty strokes.

Prior to the 2006 season, I always remember the state field hockey playoff brackets revolving around Section 1, Section 2 and Section 9 with one team receiving a bye to the regional final each year. However, in 2006 and 2007, Section 1 was thrown into the mix with Section 4 and Section 9.

Update 6: Putnam Valley wins 3-2. It’s the Tigers first sectional championship since 2005, when they won the state tournament.

5:54 – Bronxville extended its lead to 2-0 on a Jessica Murrer goal with two minutes remaining in the first half.

5:41 – Bronxville’s Brooke Gogel scored on a penalty corner with 10 minutes remaining in the first half, giving the Broncos a 1-0 lead.
